Lia
It looks like she’s in a hurry to get her assignment done.
Ramiro
Oh no.
Lia
They always seem to be due at the same time.
Ramiro
I know what you mean. It takes a lot of planning to make sure everything gets in on time. Time management is something we all need to work on.
Lia
That reminds me. I’m late. Sorry Ramiro. Ciao.
Ramiro
Bye.

Student Experiences
Dana
When I used to be at high school, the teachers kept reminding me when our work had to be done. I didn’t have to remember it by myself.
Morga
I used to be able to study the night before the exam but at uni I can’t do that anymore.
Ali
Time management? I’m not good at it. I didn’t know that classes and assignments were that important. I just thought the final exams, like in my country.
Magid
I didn’t start organising until half way through my course and I think this was a big mistake.

Lecturer's Experiences
Tony
In the first week of lectures I go through the Week One Document with the students but I also have this expectation that they will go to the Blackboard site for themselves and view the document. Get a feel for the course; check the various assessment items and their due dates. When I am organised like this, I’m of the view that students can manage their own time.
Leslie
Students need to know the difference between formative and summative assessment, whether a task is helping their learning or measuring their progress, or both.
Beata
If my students are finding it hard to manage all the tasks in a course, I always recommend that they ask for help early.

4 weeks
Mari
OK. This is due in four weeks so I think we should meet this weekend and set times for the next two weeks.
Sailing
I don’t think we need to do this right now. We’ll get it done.
Allan
I’ve got to work this weekend and I don’t know my schedule.
Crystal
Is it really going to take us four weeks? I have other assignments and homework that I want to do first.

Maria
Time management is difficult. The lecturer didn’t even tell me how to organise my work.
Sailing
I didn’t know how to do anything either. Other classmates seemed to get things done. But I always wait too late to start.
Allan
One of my problems is that I work on the computer and I have MSN open. I can chat to my friends online. This can be good but it takes me longer to do my work.
Crystal
I’ve never had to work like this before. So many assignments due at the same time.
Sailing
I didn’t know how much time it would take me to do a 1000-word assignment. I thought it would only take me one week.
Allan
Don’t they understand I’ve got a lot of other things to do, not just study?

Narrator
Students often suffer during stressful times, especially when they have a deadline to meet. Could they manage their time better?

Sailing
I feel sick. I never sleep the night before. I live in the computer lab and get headaches.
Maria
I always worry. That’s why I try to be ready a few days before the due date. I plan it that way.
Allan
It’s always so stressful.
Crystal
Yeah. I’m always surprised. Where does time go? It goes so quickly.

Ramiro
Knock Knock.
Lia
Oh Ramiro. You made it. Oh you brought me coffee. Excellent.
Ramiro
There we go.
Lia
We’ll be lucky to get any sleep tonight.
Ramiro
Well let’s just start with some coffee shall we? It’s going to be a long night. It takes practise to learn good time management. Just remember there are many ways to meet your deadlines. (to Lia) How’s it going?
