What help is available for candidates with special needs or requirements? |
||
|
In order to ensure that the language ability of all candidates is assessed fairly and objectively, IELTS and the QUT IELTS test centre make every effort to cater for the special needs of all candidates. Modified tests are available for candidates with specific learning, visual and hearing difficulties. In some circumstances, such as mobilily difficulties a laptop maybe provided. If candidates require a modified version of the test, for example in Braille, candidates must apply three months in advance of the test date to the QUT IELTS test centre. This period of notice is necessary to ensure that the modified test can be prepared. If the candidate requires only special administrative arrangements, such as extra time, this requires a minimum of six weeks’ notice i.e. a request for a laptop. In addition to the application form, candidates must tick YES on Question 22 and must provide an original copy of the medical report detailing these special needs/requirements. Please refer to question 22 of the IELTS application form for further details. Visual difficultiesA range of options is available, including enlarged print and brailled question papers. Answers may be recorded in a variety of ways. For example answers may be recorded via an amanuensis or using a Braille machine. Additional time may be allowed for completion of reading and writing modules. Hearing difficultiesIf a candidate has a partial hearing loss and can only hear with the help of headphones or special amplification equipment, candidates may ask for permission to use this equipment when taking listening modules. Learning difficultiesIf a candidate suffers from dyslexia or a similar condition, they may request up to 30 minutes extra time to complete the reading and writing modules. Any other concerns, please contact the QUT IELTS Test Centre to check how we can help.
