It is very important that candidates prepare for the IELTS test before the test day and ensure they will arrive on time for the test. Candidates certainly find it helpful to familiarise themselves with the format of the IELTS test. One way is to do a practice test. Practicing beforehand will help you be better prepared.

We also recommend candidates locate the centres entrance on Level 3 and how to get to the centre on time to avoid any unnessary stress on the day. If a candidate is travelling from afar, candidates should consider staying locally rather than driving a distance. Late arrivals cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

Most importantly candidates should ensure they have their PASSPORT for test day and DO NOT bring personal belongings.

On the day of the test, candidates are expected to be available between 8am and up to 5pm as the entire test is completed including the Speaking interview.

Candidates must arrive between 8:00am and 8.15am at QUT International College, P Block, Level 3 to commence registration. The Listening, Reading and Writing are completed in the morning for approximately three hours.

Entrance on test days is by Level 3 ONLY. Candidates must arrive between 8am and 8.15am. No other entrance is open for the IELTS test day, so please ensure you arrive in time with your passport.

If a candidate at any time has a mobile phone or electronic device in an exam room they will be excluded. Please ensure all belongings are placed in the secure baggage room.

Speaking times: Candidates must be available between 1:00pm and up to 5.00pm for the speaking component of the test that is held on the same Saturday. The times of the interviews are randomly allocated and unable to be changed on the day of the test. If you require an early interview, proof must be provided, such as plane tickets, a letter from an employer for example. This does not guarantee an earlier interview and must be arranged at the time of application and well in advance of the test date.

Candidates must return 15-20 minutes before the allocated interview time to be re-registered for the Speaking module. The interview times will be advised on the candidate card, provided at registration on the day of the test.

Candidates must follow the instructions of the centres friendly staff at all times.

Candidates must bring to their test day:

  • Current Passport – If a candidate does not bring their passport, they will be unable to sit the test.
  • Pencils, eraser, pencil-sharpener (note a pen can only be used for the Writing exam) - please remove all labels.
  • Drink in a clear bottle (i.e. water bottle with the label attached must be removed) - water bottles with writing on them will not be allowed in the examination room.

Any items that are deemed as not meeting the requirements will not be allowed in the exam room.

These include:

Keys

Coins

Wallet/Purse

Bags

Mobile Phones/Electronic Devices

Hats/Caps (exception to this rule is appropriate religious attire)

Highlighters

Additional items including passport sleeve and loose papers in passport including old flight stubs

If items are taken in the exam rooms such as mobile phone or electronic devices, the candidate will be excluded as per the IELTS rules and reported immediately to IELTS and asked to leave.

We recommend candidates do not bring any personal belongings where possible. All personal belongings will be put in a secure storage area for the duration of the test. The centre is not responsible for lost items as we strongly recommend you bring only what you require for the day.

Mobile phones and electronic devices must be switched off and placed with any personal belongings in the secure storage area designated by the QUT IELTS Test Centre. Even if an item that is switched off is found on a candidate in the exam room, this will result in exclusion as per the IELTS rules.

Only approved items are allowed in the test room - if you are not sure, please ask a staff member.

Candidates will not be given a refund or receive the results whether all four components of the test are completed or not due to any malpractice, cheating or disregarding the rules.
